Page 7 - California

Agave deserti subsp. deserti at Borrego Springs, California. This is a beautiful natural area with one of the most popular palm canyons.

Ocotillo flower near Borrego Springs.

As I headed towards the palm canyon, mass destruction awaited. Trunks of W. filifera were strewn about everywhere from a recent flood.

I also saw a lot of palms like this.

Fortunately some specimens remained alive, including this one with a huge skirt.

Pinus torreyana at the Torrey Pine State Reserve north of San Diego.

This is the northern extent of the native range of Agave shawii at the Torrey Pine Reserve.

I took many pictures at Quail Botanic Gardens. Here is Encephalartos natalensis.

On this trip, I skipped right over Los Angeles. Here is a small Bismarckia nobilis in San Luis Obispo.

An exceptionally tall Trachycarpus fortunei in Watsonville.

I had to take a few pictures at the UCSC Arboretum in Santa Cruz, since it is the coolest place in the world. Here is Agave parryi var. truncata.

Epacris impressa.

Protea flower at the UCSC Arboretum.

Agathis australis.

After that I skipped over most everything else in the Bay Area and drove straight home just in time for Christmas! Overall it was a great trip. Considering I didn't know where to find much of anything, I did pretty well seeing lots of cool stuff and collecting seeds. And now I know where to find more stuff for next time!

I hope you enjoyed my pictures from this collection trip.
